How to Sign a PDF on a Chromebook (Free)

3 min read

Chromebooks run Chrome OS, which means most Windows or Mac software doesn't run on them directly. But for PDF signing, this doesn't matter — the best method uses Chrome itself, which every Chromebook already has.

Sign a PDF on Chromebook using your browser

  1. Open Chrome on your Chromebook
  2. Go to quickpdfsign.com
  3. Click to upload your PDF, or drag it from the Files app into the browser window
  4. Create your signature: draw with your mouse/trackpad, type your name, or upload an image
  5. Click to place the signature on the PDF page
  6. Click Download — the signed PDF saves to your Downloads folder

That's all. The PDF is processed entirely in Chrome — nothing is sent to a server.

Touchscreen Chromebooks: If your Chromebook has a touchscreen, you can draw your signature with a stylus or your finger for a more natural result.

What about Android apps on Chromebook?

Many Chromebooks support Android apps from the Play Store, and apps like Adobe Fill & Sign or DocuSign are available. However, they require accounts and are slower to set up than just using the browser directly. For occasional signing, the browser approach is faster.

What about Chrome OS's built-in PDF viewer?

Chrome OS has a basic PDF viewer that lets you annotate documents, but it doesn't have a proper signature tool — only freehand drawing annotations. The drawing isn't flattened into the PDF properly, which can cause display issues for recipients. Use a dedicated signing tool for reliable results.

Sharing the signed PDF from a Chromebook

After downloading, the PDF is in your Downloads folder (accessible from the Files app). From there:

  • Attach it to Gmail directly from the Files app
  • Save it to Google Drive by moving it there in Files
  • Share via any app that accepts file attachments
