How to Sign an NDA Online for Free

3 min read

NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) are one of the most common documents people sign electronically. Freelancers sign them before client engagements. Job candidates sign them before interviews. Vendors sign them before receiving confidential specs. If you're signing an NDA and don't have a signing platform, here's the fastest free method.

Steps to sign an NDA online

  1. Download the NDA PDF from wherever it was shared (email, Google Drive, Dropbox)
  2. Go to quickpdfsign.com
  3. Upload the PDF
  4. Create your signature — draw, type, or upload an image
  5. Scroll to the signature line and place your signature
  6. If there's a date field, you can note the date in the same area (or the sender may fill this in)
  7. Download the signed NDA
  8. Send the signed PDF back to the requesting party
Read it first. This sounds obvious, but NDAs vary significantly in scope — some are mutual (both parties agree not to disclose), others are one-sided (only you agree). Some include non-compete clauses bundled in. Take two minutes to read it before signing.

Is an electronically signed NDA enforceable?

Yes. NDAs are contracts, and contracts can be formed and signed electronically under the E-SIGN Act (US), eIDAS (EU), and equivalent laws worldwide. Courts routinely enforce electronically signed NDAs — the method of signing doesn't affect enforceability.

What if the other party needs to sign too?

If it's a mutual NDA requiring both parties' signatures, you have two options:

  • Email round-trip: Sign it and email the PDF to the other party. They sign their copy and send it back to you. Both of you keep the fully executed version. This is the simplest approach.
  • Multi-party signing platform: Use DocuSign's free tier (3/month), HelloSign, or SignWell to create a tracked signing request. The other party receives a signing link and you get a completion certificate.

Should I use DocuSign for NDAs?

DocuSign adds an audit trail that proves who signed, when, and from what IP address. For high-stakes NDAs — protecting valuable trade secrets, covering sensitive financials — the extra evidence is worth having.

For everyday NDAs between known parties (a client you've worked with before, a new employer), the email trail itself serves as adequate evidence of signing intent. The browser-signed PDF is sufficient.
